Complete Tubeless Conversion Guide
Converting to tubeless tyres delivers superior puncture protection, lower rolling resistance, and the ability to run lower pressures for improved grip and comfort. This guide walks you through the complete conversion process using professional-grade components.
What You'll Need
For a successful tubeless conversion, you'll need the following components:
- Tubeless-ready or tubeless-compatible rims and tyres
- Tubeless rim tape - Professional Tubeless Rim Tape (25mm/31mm)
- Tubeless valves - Professional Aluminum Tubeless Valves (44mm/60mm)
- Tubeless sealant - Magic Milk Hi-Fibre Professional Race Sealant
- Floor pump or compressor - Elite Rechargeable Inflation System
- Valve core removal tool - Presta Core Removal Caps
Or get everything you need in one package with our Tubeless Conversion Kit Bundle or Professional Tubeless Conversion System.
Step-by-Step Conversion Process
1. Prepare Your Rims
Remove your existing tyres and inner tubes completely. Clean the rim bed thoroughly, removing any old tape, dirt, or debris. The surface must be completely clean and dry for proper tape adhesion.
2. Apply Tubeless Rim Tape
Select the correct width tape for your rim (measure the internal width). Starting opposite the valve hole, apply the tubeless rim tape with firm, even pressure, ensuring no air bubbles or wrinkles. Overlap the starting point by 10-15cm and press firmly. Use a blunt tool to locate and pierce the valve hole through the tape.
3. Install Tubeless Valves
Insert your tubeless valve through the hole in the tape. Hand-tighten the lock ring firmly - avoid over-tightening which can damage the tape seal. Choose 44mm for standard rims or 60mm for deeper section wheels.
4. Mount the Tyre
Install one bead of the tyre onto the rim. Before mounting the second bead, remove the valve core using a valve core removal tool. This allows rapid air entry for initial seating.
5. Seat the Tyre Beads
With the valve core removed, use a high-volume pump, compressor, or rechargeable electric pump to rapidly inflate the tyre. You should hear distinct 'pops' as each bead seats into the rim. Once seated, deflate completely and reinstall the valve core.
6. Add Sealant
There are two methods:
- Through the valve: Remove the valve core, attach a sealant injector, and inject 60-80ml for road tyres or 80-120ml for MTB tyres of Magic Milk Hi-Fibre sealant.
- Direct pour: Break one bead, pour sealant directly into the tyre, then reseat the bead.
7. Inflate and Distribute Sealant
Inflate to your desired pressure (typically 10-20% lower than with tubes). Rotate and shake the wheel vigorously to distribute sealant evenly around the tyre and seal any small gaps. You may see sealant weeping through the tyre casing - this is normal and will seal within minutes.
8. Final Check
Leave the wheel horizontal for 10-15 minutes to allow the sealant to pool and seal the bead interface. Check pressure after 24 hours and top up if needed. Some initial pressure loss is normal as the system fully seals.
Maintenance & Repair
Check sealant levels every 3-6 months and top up as needed. For punctures on the trail, carry a tubeless repair tool with strips for quick fixes.
For emergency backup, our Essential Tubeless Repair Kit Bundle includes repair tools, CO2 inflator, and emergency supplies to get you home.

Troubleshooting
Tyre won't seat: Ensure tape is properly applied with no gaps. Try adding more air volume or use a compressor for stubborn tyres.
Persistent air loss: Check valve tightness and ensure the valve core is properly installed. Add more sealant if needed.
Sealant won't seal: Larger cuts may require a tubeless repair plug. For severe damage, install a tube as emergency backup.
With proper setup and maintenance, tubeless tyres provide superior performance and reliability for road, gravel, and mountain biking.
